I did a google search for Filezilla virus or trojans and found a blog entry from Avast about malformed filezilla installations that contain a login stealer. I became suspicious and did a virus scan of the whole computer but it didn't catch anything. I discovered that it wanted to translate from Ukrainian to English, which struck me as odd because the hosting website just appeared to be in english already. Then, chrome poped up a window asking if I wanted to "translate the page". All offers that are presented when downloading FileZilla are optional and go through a rigorous verification and strict compliance process to make sure they are not malicious and virus free. When I logged in I thought I noticed something happen in the bottom left corner of the browser (like when you download a file). The FileZilla installer on SourceForge is a stub that encapsulates the actual FileZilla installer to ensure the original FileZilla software is delivered. I downloaded the installer from a link to Sourceforge on the official web page ()Īfter installing and running filezilla, I then opened a chrome browser and logged in to the website of my hosting provider. I have just (1st Oct 2014) installed Filezilla - a popular open-source FTP client.
